{August 19, 2013}   Wilting

rosewilts
some things die without proper tending
without nourishment,
a wilting of one kind or another can occur
it doesn’t take much really,
just a little attention, a pat on the head
and some light shining bright
muted-like,
too much can kill though,
when the spotlight shines sharp
it can pinpoint down like a thumbtack through a fly
wriggling for all the world to see
the magnification through the lens can spark
enough to burn down the house
domino effect tumbles into tomorrow
before you know it you’re toast
scraping bug parts off the windshield
it’s a fine line to walk
spider silk slippery
and when we slide, we always slide down,
sluggish and molasses-like
sticky and puddled ’round my toes
like rose petals
wilting
wilted
